A scathing new ESPN article about the sorry state of the Los Angeles Lakers contains an anecdote where the team's general manager, Rob Pelinka, claimed he hooked Kobe Bryant up for dinner with Heath Ledger after Bryant saw Ledger's gripping performance in The Dark Knight. (Pelinka was Bryant's agent before landing a gig in the Lakers' front office.) Small issue, though: The Dark Knight was released in July 2008--six months after Ledger died. As Deadspin sarcastically puts it, "Unless Kobe somehow got his hands on an extremely early screener that not even Ledger himself had seen, Pelinka completely made up this story."
